Hispanic Heritage Month FactIn English-speaking countries, the 2nd Monday of October is celebrated as Columbus Day or Native American Day. In Spanish-speaking countries and communities, it is known as Día de la Raza, the Day of the Race. Día de la Raza is the celebration of the Hispanic heritage of Latin America and brings into it all the ethnic and cultural influences making it distinctive. On this day, we recall Columbus’s deeds and celebrate not Columbus the man, but the actions and influences of all the people who came after him and have created the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic society we now celebrate with Día de la Raza.

TODAY- Want some tasty authentic food from various Spanish-speaking countries?! In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, Spanish students will provide authentic dishes today during lunch (both first and second lunches). To join in on the festivities, you may purchase tickets on Thursday. You may purchase 2 tickets for $1 (1 food sample = 1 ticket) . If you are REALLY hungry, you may purchase the MEGA MUNCHIE PASS (15 tickets) for $5. All proceeds will benefit the victims of the hurricane in Puerto Rico. Come hungry and celebrate Hispanic heritage!
